From Interfaith Power and Light (http://interfaithpowerandlight.org):
On March 31, President Biden announced a major infrastructure package that invests in rebuilding our economy, creating millions of jobs, and protecting our health, lands, air, water, and climate. This is a huge step forward on climate with specific investments to electrify transportation, cut dangerous carbon pollution, and build back better. But even more is needed to meet the challenge of the climate crisis.
Urge your members of Congress to support a plan that truly tackles climate change at https://interfaithpowerandlight.salsalabs.org/rebuildnow/index.html.
As people of faith and conscience, we are tasked with building a more just world—one that is in line with our moral values of protecting our most vulnerable siblings and being faithful stewards of the Earth.
Rebuilding America will take a transformational investment plan that delivers jobs, justice, and clean energy to communities across the country and curbs the carbon pollution that is driving the climate crisis. Now Congress must approve these investments to create new jobs and a just, equitable, and sustainable economy.
The devastating winter storms this year and the massive wildfires of 2020 demonstrate the urgent need to upgrade our infrastructure, including our electrical grid, power supply, and water infrastructure to withstand extreme weather events that are becoming the new normal. Furthermore, we’ve seen Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) communities, as well as low-wealth communities, being hit harder by the triple health, economic, and environmental crises we face. That’s why these communities must be centered in this plan.
We have an extraordinary, historic opportunity to invest in the future we want — a safer climate, a fairer, more inclusive economy, and modern clean energy infrastructure that improves our daily lives.
Together we can safeguard Creation, address the impacts of climate change on our most vulnerable neighbors, and fulfill our moral obligation to leave a habitable world for future generations. Join us and reach out to your representatives today.
Specifically, our communities need a plan that:
- Modernizes our water infrastructure and electrical grid and vastly expands renewable energy sources
- Electrifies transportation and expands mass transit infrastructure
- Includes the RECLAIM Act to create jobs cleaning up abandoned coal mines and restoring the land and water polluted by them.
- Includes the THRIVE Act, creating a national clean energy standard and investing $10 trillion over the next decade in a top-to-bottom clean energy economy, with half of that investment going to the communities hurt the most by our present dirty fossil fuel economy.
