From Interfaith Worker Justice (http://www.iwj.org):
When Donald Trump promised on the campaign trail to be a “champion for working people” against special interests, it was easy to be skeptical of his claim.
Since the inauguration, we have seen time and again that this was a hollow promise.
Now, Senate Republicans are poised to fire another shot in the war against working people. We can’t count on the president to veto legislation that hurts working people, so we must defeat such laws before they reach the president’s desk.
On Monday, the Senate will vote on the question of whether to repeal President Obama’s Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces executive order that force companies vying for federal contracts to disclose any labor violations on their record.
The rule helps prevent waste, fraud, and abuse of taxpayer dollars, will allow law-abiding businesses to compete on an even playing field, and will protect employees.
Go to http://org.salsalabs.com/o/1035/p/dia/action4/common/public/?action_KEY=21308 to tell your Senators to vote NO on HJ Res 37 and urge them not to side with companies that steal workers’ wages and fail to protect worker safety.
Nearly 30% of companies with the most egregious labor law violations were continually awarded federal contracts before President Obama’s executive order. The rules under the order simply require companies bidding on large federal contracts to disclose violations of federal labor or civil rights laws and forbids forced arbitration if claims under those laws.
It’s a no-brainer. That’s why it’s so important that your Senators hear from you about protecting working people by keeping the Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces on the books.
Thanks so much for taking action and standing up for working people, as always.
