From Amnesty International USA (http://www.amnestyusa.org):
Instead of our usual monthly roundup of Amnesty stories, we’re focusing this Insider Update on the continuing crisis in Ukraine.
Our Crisis Evidence Lab and the crisis researchers we’ve deployed have been collecting evidence and verifying attacks on civilians in real time. We are now urging the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to investigate a recent Russian air strike that killed 47 civilians in the city of Chernihiv as a war crime.
These attacks are horrific — and what’s worse, they are likely to be the tip of the iceberg. That’s why, right now, Amnesty is using the full breadth and scope of our capacity to uncover war crimes and human rights violations in this conflict. This work is critical at this moment because our documentation will ultimately be part of what holds Russian leaders accountable for their crimes. We’re mobilizing all of our resources to protect human rights and lives in Ukraine.
Below is an update about the development of this crisis:
A Message from Amnesty Ukraine
“Russia’s invasion of my country is an act of aggression and an international crime.”
Watch our colleague and Amnesty Ukraine’s Executive Director Oksana Pokalchuk’s statement on Russia’s invasion in her home country.
As the Amnesty movement, we have a responsibility to make our voices as loud as possible at this moment and demand an end to the violence. That’s why we are collecting as many petition signatures as we can to deliver to the Russian Ambassador to the U.S. Anatoly Antonov, and Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation General Sergey Kuzhugetovich Shoigu.
It’s critical that these individuals — who have a direct line to the Kremlin — are constantly inundated with our call to stop the attacks. Will you add your name?
Take action at https://act.amnestyusa.org/page/100395/action/1: Urge the Russian government to stop its war on Ukraine and stop attacking civilians.
You may have taken action already — if so, please share this far and wide with as many people as you can. If you’re interested in mailing letters to apply even more pressure, we’ve collected addresses for several Russian consulate offices, and the primary office of the Russian Embassy to the U.S. — click here.
The lives of millions of people are hanging in balance, and we must do everything we can to protect them.
