From the Clean Air Council (http://www.cleanair.org/):
Clean Air Council has helped our supporters submit almost 1,800 official comments to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to support and strengthen the proposed pollution standards for new and existing gas drilling sites, compressor stations, and storage tanks.
Now we need Congress to take action—act now at https://cleanaircouncil.salsalabs.org/EPAMethaneCongressionalSignOn/index.html.
Methane is 87 times more potent a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide over a 20-year time period and contributes to a full third of the climate chaos U.S. residents are currently experiencing, including 688 deaths and $145 billion in damages caused by extreme weather in 2021. As the EPA considers the comments submitted on the proposed rule and forms the final pollution standards for oil and gas sites, they need to hear from your Congressperson in D.C.
Please ask your Congressperson to join Reps. Beyer, Lowenthal, DeGette, Peters, and Leger Fernãndez in sending a letter to the Biden Administration thanking them for proposing methane regulations for new and existing oil and gas facilities. The letter also offers two specific recommendations to ensure strong environmental protections – ensuring small wells are not exempt and an end to flaring for non-emergency situations.
Please ask your Congressperson to sign-on to this letter of support asking the EPA to finalize a strong federal pollution standard for oil and gas sites that includes regular inspections of all shale gas infrastructure and prohibits the practice of venting and flaring methane gas unless in an absolute emergency.
