From Faith in Public Life (http://www.faithinpubliclife.org):
A year ago today, George Floyd’s family lost their loved one. They lost a father, a brother and a friend to a cruel armed agent of the state – a story that is all too familiar in Black communities that bear the brunt of racist police violence. Justice will not be done until we are all able to live free and thrive without the fear of being harassed, profiled and murdered by police.
As people of faith, it’s on us to believe in — and demand — a future where all can live safely, freely and with dignity. Black lives matter to God. They must matter to our government. Send your Member of Congress a letter today at http://fpl.actionkit.com/letter/cosponsor-the-BREATHE-act urging them to co-sponsor the BREATHE Act.
The BREATHE Act’s promise is simple: take money from systems of punishment and surveillance that disproportionately harm Black and Brown people, and invest in infrastructure that supports growth, learning and equity in communities of color. That’s how we create truly safe communities for all.
People of faith have an important role to play in this moral movement. Following the lead of prophetic Black organizers who have brought about this historic moment, we must reimagine public safety and invest in the dignity and liberation of all.
