From the Alaska Wilderness League (http://www.alaskawild.org):
Melting sea ice is leaving polar bears hungrier and hungrier. The Fish and Wildlife Service just announced that unless we act decisively now, their numbers could plummet in the near future.
But instead of moving away from dirty energy policies that warm our planet, last week Senators Murkowski and Sullivan (both R-AK) introduced a bill to allow oil drilling right where polar bears den in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
Urge Senators Casey and Toomey to oppose this bill, and any that seeks to drill in the Arctic Refuge at http://act.alaskawild.org/sign/norefugedrilling2017.
Protecting polar bear dens is essential. And in the past decade, as sea ice has dwindled, an increasing number of mother polar bears have begun to den on land. This makes it more important than ever to protect the coastal areas where a majority of polar bears now den.
So it’s up to your senators to help block oil drilling in unique places like the Arctic Refuge – a refuge not only for mother polar bears, but nursing caribou and millions of fledgling migratory birds, all of which not only need protection from climate change, but a safe place to raise their young as well.
