From CeaseFirePA (http://www.ceasefirepa.org):
There’s a troubling pattern that follows mass shootings in the U.S. There’s a short period where there’s a call for action, when it seems like something will finally happen, and then the powers that be — leaders in Congress who follow the talking points of the NRA — say wait, it’s too early to act. Then we wait, and nothing happens, and our attention is diverted. It’s all part of the plan.
It happened again after Las Vegas. We all thought maybe we could at least get one simple thing done — ban bump stocks, the “accessory” that can accelerate the rate of fire from a semi-automatic rifle to mimic a fully automatic one. No one needs this device. And for a time, it seemed Congress might do something. But sure enough, there were calls to slow down, let the ATF look at it again, and now Congress has moved on.
But states and cities across the nation are breaking the pattern and taking action on their own to ban these dangerous devices. And PA has the opportunity to do so as well. Bipartisan bills to ban bump stocks are pending in both the State House and Senate. Let’s get them moving.
Please email your Senator today at http://org2.salsalabs.com/o/5610/c/1537/p/dia/action4/common/public/?action_KEY=25840 to ask him or her to cosponsor Senator Pat Browne’s bill, SB 1030, to ban bump stocks.
