From the Alaska Wilderness League (http://www.alaskawild.org):

President Biden took critical Day One action to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from imminent leasing, and now Congress needs to seal the deal to preserve a legacy of wild lands, full of caribou, polar bears and other unique wildlife that the Refuge sustains. Please send your members of Congress a message today at https://secure.everyaction.com/3stmu0H6pUyk1OEGEVt8xQ2.

Last week, Representatives Jared Huffman and Brian Fitzpatrick and Senator Ed Markey introduced a bipartisan bill to repeal the oil leasing mandate and protect the Arctic Refuge. There is incredible momentum both in Congress and the White House to fight climate change and preserve our nation’s most valuable landscapes, so please urge your congressmembers to co-sponsor the Arctic Refuge Protection Act today.

It’s crystal clear that drilling proponents’ promised financial windfall from Arctic Refuge drilling was a sham. In reality, the recent Arctic Refuge lease sale generated less than 1% of the revenue promised in the 2017 Tax Act. Passing this measure would not only protect a national treasure but help ensure the food security and subsistence traditions of the Gwich’in and Iñupiat peoples and prevent long-term carbon pollution at a critical juncture for addressing the climate and biodiversity crises.

Please urge your members of Congress to co-sponsor the Arctic Refuge Protection Act today.
