From Pre-K for PA (http://www.prekforpa.org/):
The budget process is never easy, and it is just getting underway, but earlier this week the House approved a budget that falls short of an adequate investment in services to our youngest citizens.
The House proposal included a $25 million increase in pre-k funding based on a limited package of revenue enhancements. This is in sharp contrast to the governor’s proposal of an additional $75 million which relied on a more aggressive package of revenues. The House budget was a procedural step in the process and will serve as a floor to further budget negotiations.
Pennsylvania delivers high-quality, publicly funded pre-k to many children, but nearly 113,000 remain unserved and a serious investment must be made to continue toward the goal of providing access to all at-risk kids.
We encourage you, if you have not already done so, to learn more about pre-k in your area. Arm yourself with the statistics of the need in your district and the proven benefits of high-quality, publicly funded pre-k. Today, you can help Pre-K for PA by contacting your local legislators and telling them to support a budget with the resources necessary to invest an additional $75 million for high-quality pre-k.
