From the Alaska Wilderness League (http://www.alaskawild.org):
Now, the Arctic Ocean AND the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge are in Big Oil’s crosshairs, including places in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, a place sacred to the Gwich’in people where polar bears and caribou raise their babies.
Urge Senators Casey and Toomey to oppose new legislation (S.3203) that allows drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and that requires new leasing in America’s Arctic Ocean, at http://act.alaskawild.org/sign/stop-new-arctic-drilling-scheme.
The Obama administration could make a critical decision about future Arctic Ocean leasing any day. We can’t allow bills that encourage Arctic drilling to gain any traction in Congress.
The “Alaska economic development and access to resources act” could rob Alaska and all Americans of some of its most prized and unique public areas for temporary, and mainly private, benefit. These lands and waters will be critical for Alaska’s future resiliency, traditional uses, and sustainability as it develops alternative industries in a rapidly changing world.
