From the Center for the Victims of Torture (http://www.cvt.org/):
In the face of the worst global refugee crisis in history, President Trump signed an Executive Order shutting America’s door in the face of the world’s most vulnerable people, upending decades of American leadership in refugee protection and betraying core American values.
There is now legislation pending in both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives that would rescind and nullify President Trump’s Executive Order on refugees.
Trump’s Executive Order bars all refugees from entering the United States for 120 days, bans the entry of Syrian refugees indefinitely, and denies entry to immigrants based solely on their country of origin. This Executive Order has created chaos and confusion, as refugees and immigrants from 7 Muslim majority countries who had already gone through security vetting procedures and been issued visas to enter the United States were indiscriminately turned away and/or detained. This is not who we are as a country.
Up to 44% of refugees who come to the US are torture survivors. Many CVT clients, torture survivors who are separated from their families, have had their lives shattered by this Executive Order. Their hopes for family reunification are destroyed.
Please join CVT and the Council in standing with refugees. Contact your Senators and Representatives now and urge them to co-sponsor legislation rescinding and nullifying Trump’s Executive Order on Refugees.
