From the National Partnership for Women and Families (http://www.nationalpartnership.org/site/PageServer):
Families with children are all too aware of the urgent need for paid family and medical leave. So it is good news that Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Representative Rosa DeLauro reintroduced the FAMILY Act in Congress.
The FAMILY Act is what America’s working families need and deserve. Please join in supporting this crucial piece of legislation.

The Family and Medical Insurance Leave (FAMILY) Act would:
- Include up to 12 weeks of partially paid leave for medical emergencies
- Create a self-sustaining paid leave program
- Prohibit employers from firing or discriminating against a worker for taking paid leave
- Recognize the diversity of families by providing paid leave to all caregivers including spouses, domestic partners and adoptive parents
Having time with newborn children or being able to care for a loved one is a right all working people should have. While many are fortunate to have paid leave, this simply is not the reality for most Americans. Working people should never be in fear of losing a job or days of pay to be with their families in times of need.
