From the Food Research and Action Center (http://www.frac.org):
On August 1, Senate leaders appointed nine Senators as Farm Bill (H.R. 2) conferees to serve with the 47 House Members already named. While the House is out for the August recess, negotiations are expected to continue on an informal basis to set the stage for an agreement prior to expiration of the current Farm Bill on September 30. SNAP is permanently authorized and so continuity of SNAP benefits is not dependent on enactment of a new Farm Bill. With $20 billion in 10-year cuts to SNAP proposed in the House bill, however, anti-hunger advocates and allies are redoubling efforts to ensure that any final Farm Bill agreement rejects the House SNAP proposals and instead protects and strengthens SNAP. Recent communications backing Senate SNAP provisions include a letter from AARP and a chart from the National Association of Counties (NACo). Watch FRAC’s website for postings of additional expressions of support of SNAP.
