From the National Alliance to End Homelessness (http://www.endhomelessness.org):
As communities continue to invest in rapid re-housing (RRH), it’s critical to understand this intervention’s impact on individuals and the homeless system.
Based on data from Urban Institute, a new infographic from the Alliance explains what RRH is, who it helps, and what effect it has.
There are more than 145,000 families experiencing homelessness each year. And there are thousands of individuals denied shelter due to a lack of capacity. That makes rapid re-housing a critical intervention that can get people housed while also reducing reliance on costlier interventions.
Rapid re-housing helps ensure shelter resources are used efficiently. Because of RRH’s lower cost, more people experiencing homelessness can move from shelter into permanent housing, and more shelter beds can be available for people experiencing a housing crisis.
