From the National Religious Campaign Against Torture (http://www.nrcat.org):
June is Torture Awareness Month, and you can join other people of faith and conscience nationwide in activities that focus on NRCAT’s founding message: Torture is a Moral Issue.
Here are some ways NRCAT members will raise awareness of torture:
- Fast to Close Guantanamo – June 14: As part of a 41 day fast by our colleagues at Witness Against Torture, NRCAT is sponsoring a one-day fast on June 14 to bring attention to the 41 men who remain imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay. Signup to participate in the fast.
- Together to End Solitary Campaign – June 23: On the 23rd of every month, local faith communities across the U.S. are hosting a vigil, educational event or other activity to lift up the torture being experienced inside U.S. jails and prisons. Learn more and download resources.
- Share this bulletin insert during Torture Awareness Month.
- Print and display poster images to make visible the stories of people enduring solitary confinement in our communities or display one of NRCAT’s other posters. View our downloadable posters.
- Mobilize your community to write to your governor or help collect signatures on one of our petitions.
- Make a financial contribution to NRCAT’s work. June is one of only two months out of the year when we do a member fund drive, and your support keeps this valuable work moving forward.
For a listing of these and other resources you can use to spread awareness of torture during this important month, visit www.nrcat.org/TAM.
Please let us know if you are able to do any of these activities. This helps NRCAT tell the story of how our national network is acting to end torture.
