From the Union of Concerned Scientists (http://www.ucsusa.org):
We need your help to seize the moment in this new Congress. Science Champions all around the country will be visiting their legislators at their local offices and creating a resounding message: constituents want Congress to do its job and protect science and the public’s health. Click here for the tools you’ll need to get started, including a handy postcard you can hang on your fridge so you don’t forget!
Meeting face-to-face with your legislator or their staff is by far the most powerful thing you can do to sway their thinking. In fact, Capitol Hill staffers rank it as the most influential thing a constituent can do!
If you’ve never done something like this before, don’t worry. Meetings are very short and informal. You don’t need to be an expert—what matters most is you’re a constituent, and you care. And don’t forget, we have the webinar recording, advice on how to set up your meeting, and more.
Your face-to-face meeting with your legislator or their staff will be one of the most impactful things you can do to ensure we defend science and science policy in the new Congress. (Editor’s Note: …and affect many other things as well!)
