Congratulations. If you were among the hundreds of thousands of people who submitted comments to the U.S. Department of Labor on its proposal to let employers take workers’ tips, your voice has been heard loud and clear. The overwhelming majority of the comments opposed the rule, similar to a recent poll NELP conducted with voters. Fully 82% of respondents across party and geographic lines opposed the proposal.
Now that we’ve learned that the Labor Department prepared, but then covered up, an impact analysis that found the proposed rule could cost workers billions in lost wages, there is only one thing for the Department to do: scrap the rule, and let workers keep the tips they earn through their labor.
