Tell Secretary Zinke/Department of the Interior—No Offshore Drilling in the Arctic

From the Alaska Wilderness League (http://www.alaskawild.org):

President Trump’s reckless plan to open our public waters to more offshore drilling will not make America “great.” Smoggy air? Spills along our coasts? Oiled wildlife? No way! For great progress, we need to keep oil in the ground and reject offshore drilling in the Arctic Ocean—send a message at http://act.alaskawild.org/sign/5yrplan2017/.

There’s just no way to clean up an inevitable spill in harsh, unpredictable environments like the Arctic Ocean. Just this past winter, the oil company Hilcorp allowed terrible leaks in Cook Inlet to persist for months near important beluga habitat because sea ice blocked repairs.

Yet, the Trump administration is attempting to write a new “5-year oil and gas leasing plan” that ignores all these risks and the millions of Americans who commented in favor of ocean protections.

The public can comment on this new plan until August 17, so please help show the Trump administration that opening our coasts to more offshore leasing won’t “make America great again.”

Research analysts at Morgan Stanley “project that by 2020, renewables will be the cheapest form of new-power generation across the globe.”(1) Why open the ocean to more risky offshore leasing, to more oil spills AND to increased decades of carbon pollution, when we can move forward with cleaner energy?
