From POWER (http://www.powerinterfaith.org/):
For years, POWER has been one of the only voices calling for fair distribution of public education funding in Pennsylvania (the Council has joined in this effort). As people of faith, we affirm the infinite value of all our children, and will not rest until the injustice of racial inequity in school funding ends. While other education advocates have called for an increase in overall state funding (which POWER also supports), it was POWER who shed light on the systematic racial bias in the current funding scheme, and the need to end educational apartheid by distributing 100% of funding through the state’s fair funding formula. And finally in recent weeks, Governor Wolf has publicly endorsed this call.
Hundreds of you joined our massive action in Harrisburg on June 20, where we received a commitment from Governor Wolf’s office to support 100% formula funding, and a week later, the Governor publicly announced his support. Since then, school funding has become a key issue in the governor’s race, as opponents have distorted the Governor’s statements to claim that Wolf favors immediate drastic cuts in school funding for most districts, and members of the Governor’s team have diluted the governor’s statement. Governor Wolf needs to know that there’s a massive constituency across the state who appreciate his stand for valuing all children by supporting 100% fair funding. We need you to help deliver that message. Will you take 2 minutes to both call and Email the Governor? Here’s an online form that you can use to send your message: https://www.governor.pa.gov/contact/#OnlineForm
Please tell the Governor: Support adequate funding for all of Pennsylvania’s public schools, and support using the funding formula for 100% of the funds allocated for public education to ensure fair distribution of the funds.
