Sign Petition: Tell the Postmaster to Reverse Harmful Changes in the Postal Service

From Common Cause (http://www.commoncause.org):

The U.S. Postal Service — under new postmaster general Louis DeJoy — just announced sweeping changes that could throw a major wrench into November’s election.

If we don’t respond, USPS could soon come to a grinding halt — destroying customers’ confidence in the agency and jeopardizing our ability to vote by mail.

That means millions of voters would be forced to choose between giving up their rights or risking their health at the polls this fall.

DeJoy must immediately reverse these harmful changes — and ensure that Americans have a strong, reliable Postal Service that they can depend on during elections. If you agree, add your name now at https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/new-postal-service-changes-could-delay-mail-ballots.

Since the Postal Service’s founding, USPS workers have been committed to ensuring that every piece of mail gets delivered in a timely, reliable fashion — and that the mail is picked up from every address every day, no matter how long it takes.

But DeJoy just implemented extreme new regulations that will frequently prevent postal workers from completing their daily routes. He is eliminating all overtime, cutting all extra trips, and directly instructing mail carriers to leave mail behind at distribution centers, if delivering it might extend their hours.

This will lead to serious delivery delays of everything from life-saving medications to absentee ballots and 2020 Census forms.

And it’s particularly dangerous as we get closer to Election Day — when there’ll be a substantial increase in vote-by-mail usage across the country, straining the Postal Service’s now artificially limited capacity.

For the sake of November’s election, we need a massive outcry directed at DeJoy from everyday Americans who rely on the Postal Service — urging him to reverse his dangerous new directives. Will you speak out?

DeJoy claims these changes will cut costs — but more likely, they’ll put the already beleaguered agency in even deeper financial peril. Instead, Common Cause is pressuring the Senate to follow the House’s lead in passing crucial funding to save the Postal Service.

Please speak out in defense of USPS today. Our democracy depends on it.
