From Faith in Public Life (http://www.faithinpubliclife.org):
The right to vote is sacred and is the core of our democracy. But for far too long, our elected officials have worked to suppress the right to vote, particularly among communities of color. Our democracy cannot be fully realized until all people have fair and equitable access to the ballot to ensure their values and interests are represented. The For the People Act (S.1) will do just that and it’s headed to a Senate committee hearing this week!
Email our Senators at http://fpl.actionkit.com/letter/support-for-people-act/ to urge them to protect and expand voting rights for all by passing the For the People Act!
The For the People Act will expand election security and provide ethical accountability within our government, enact automatic voter registration, end partisan gerrymandering, expand vote-by-mail and improve access to mail-in ballots, particularly for voters of color and trans people. This legislation will make Congress more accountable to our communities.
We are inspired by the faith leaders in states like Georgia who are resisting immoral voter suppression bills right now and advocating for a democracy for all. As people of faith, we must ensure the dignity of all people is upheld through protecting our right to vote. It’s time to right the wrongs of our past.
Now it is time for the Senate to swiftly pass bold legislation that will strengthen our democracy and make our voting systems more equitable and just.
