From the Pennsylvania Budget and Policy Center (http://www.pennbpc.org):
Yesterday, Pennsylvania’s House of Representatives voted to overturn the rules put in place by Governor Wolf to close all non-essential businesses during the current pandemic as a means of limiting the spread of the coronavirus throughout Pennsylvania. SB 613 will allow most businesses in Pennsylvania to open almost immediately. They also voted against protecting workers who would be forced to work in dangerous conditions or ensuring that they were paid a decent wage.
This vote is a threat to the health and lives of all Pennsylvanians.
Now it’s up to the Senate where a vote is likely to happen today, Wednesday, April 15. Please go to https://actionnetwork.org/letters/tell-pa-senators-put-the-our-lives-over-profits to tell your senator to vote no.
Thousands of you wrote and called your representatives to try to convince them to vote no. But we are not giving up—we hope that our senators who have larger and more diverse districts might listen to reason and their constituents, not the business interests who are willing to sacrifice the health of their employees and customers for the sake of their profits.
We all know that both business owners and employees are hurting now. But we also know that the answer is to provide more relief for businesses and their employees, not to put their lives and those of the rest of us at risk by going back to work too soon before we have done enough to ensure that the coronavirus will not start spreading again.
