From Hunger-Free Pennsylvania (https://www.hungerfreepa.org/):
In “normal” times, far too many Pennsylvanians are challenged by hunger. But during the pandemic, that need was even more evident as many in our communities turned to food banks for help for the first time. Our statewide charitable food network has always been a lifeline to those in need, but more is needed. That demand has not eased, and in some cases continues to surge. Hopefully we are seeing an end to this health crisis in sight, but we will feel the lasting impacts of the economic crisis for years to come.
The State Food Purchase Program (SFPP) and Pennsylvania Agricultural Surplus System (PASS) are our Commonwealth’s two main anti-hunger programs and they both need to be adequately funded as demand remains high. Feeding Pennsylvania and Hunger-Free Pennsylvania are seeking $24 million for SFPP and $5 million for PASS in the state’s 2021-22 fiscal year budget.
Use the Action Alert at https://hungerfreepa.salsalabs.org/actionalertmarch2021 to email your Representative and Senator in Harrisburg to tell them that SFPP and PASS need to be a priority in the next state budget.
