From PennEnvironment (http://www.pennenvironment.org):
Sheltering in place for the past seven weeks has many yearning to get out and enjoy the outdoor places that make Pennsylvania great. Yet as Gov. Wolf plans for residents to “return to a different and more resilient Pennsylvania,” the state legislature is poised to freeze funding that’s currently allocated to our state parks, neighborhood playgrounds and threatened family farms.1
Tell your state Senator to oppose legislation that threatens our state’s most treasured places at https://pennenvironment.webaction.org/p/dia/action4/common/public/?action_KEY=37860.
This legislation, House Bill 1822, passed the state House on April 21 and is expected to get a vote in the state Senate as early as next week.
These proposed cuts go well beyond putting our parks and public lands at risk. HB1822 also includes slashing funds for programs that:
- Provide recycling programs for Pennsylvania’s communities;
- Protect our rivers and streams from pollution;
- Promote clean energy to reduce air pollution.2
For decades, these programs have protected the environment we enjoy and love. Now we must protect these programs from attacks by politicians in Harrisburg.
As we move towards a more resilient Pennsylvania, our parks, forests, trails and other outdoor places will be more important than ever for our happiness and peace of mind. We can’t let legislators in Harrisburg make it harder to protect Pennsylvania’s great outdoor places.
Tell Harrisburg: don’t put our parks and forests on the chopping block.
