From Families Against Mandatory Minimums (http://famm.org/):
On September 24, FAMM members from across Pennsylvania came to the Capitol to tell lawmakers to pass probation reform this year — and our message is still echoing in the halls!
More than 100 Pennsylvanians impacted by probation held a rally right in the heart of the Capitol, told moving stories, and then met with lawmakers and legislative staff to explain how long probation sentences make it harder, not easier, for people to stay out of prison and contribute to their families and communities.
Two bills, HB 1555 and SB 14, are being considered and would, if passed, limit the length of probation sentences and allow people to earn their way off probation more quickly if they follow the rules. FAMM is supporting these bills, and we are hopeful they’ll see some votes this fall.
If you could not come to the rally, you can still help us pass these bills: text JUSTICE to 21333 or call 717-482-1505 today to send a message to your state lawmakers that you support probation reform!
September 24 was another example of how families are at the heart of everything FAMM does — and we can do nothing without you!
