From Interfaith Power and Light (http://interfaithpowerandlight.org):

Scott Pruitt, the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), is attempting to repeal the Clean Power Plan. The EPA created this safeguard with input from millions of Americans in order to set limits on the otherwise unlimited dumping of carbon pollution from power plants into our air, pollution which is a primary driver of global warming. We need people of faith to act now in support of this life-saving plan.

Toxic air pollution from coal-fired power plants has been shown to cause respiratory illnesses, heart disease, stroke, cancer, and premature death. Children living near this pollution have a much higher rate of asthma, resulting in more hospitalizations and missed school days. In the United States, deaths from polluting electricity sources such as coal have been estimated to be as high as 52,000 annually-more than the number of people killed in car accidents each year.

The Clean Power Plan, if fully implemented, would not only protect the lives of people living near coal-fired power plants, but it would also drive investment in clean energy, creating good jobs for many Americans.

As people of faith, we are called to care for and protect both our neighbors and Creation. The most vulnerable among us are impacted first and hardest by the effects of climate change and carbon pollution. Together, we can change this, but only if we speak up with one clear and powerful voice. Please join us!
