From Interfaith Power and Light (http://interfaithpowerandlight.org):
Methane pollution causes deep and irreparable harm, polluting the air and jeopardizing the health of children and those living in frontline communities. This summer the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is working on new safeguards to address methane pollution generated by oil and gas operations. This is a critical window for people of faith and conscience to make their voice heard in support of strong methane pollution rules.

Methane is a potent greenhouse gas responsible for a quarter of the global warming that we are experiencing today. Over 12.5 million Americans live close enough to oil and gas operations to threaten their health with toxic air pollution that oil and gas production emits alongside the methane pollution.
We have the tools to cut methane pollution from the oil and gas sector by as much as 65 percent below 2012 levels by 2025. EPA’s own analysis found that these standards would achieve significant reductions of methane and other harmful air pollution at a low cost. Recent studies also show significant job growth from an industry that is developing around cleaning up methane pollution.
Tell the EPA to implement the strongest safeguards possible.
We need just and equitable methane pollution rules with a focus on the poorest and most vulnerable populations. As we continue to build more clean energy and replace fossil fuels, we need the strongest safeguards possible on methane pollution right now.
