From Clean Water Action (http://www.cleanwateraction.org/):
The fossil fuel industry has put their profits before our health for decades. It’s time to close the loopholes that allow oil and gas companies to pollute our water, air and communities. Go to https://cleanwater.salsalabs.org/support-frack-pack/index.html to tell Congress to pass the Frack Act to rein in some of the most polluting fossil fuel activities.
The oil and gas industry wields enormous political power. Massive spending on elections and lobbying, a relentless spin machine and agency capture at all levels of government give fossil fuel companies an outsized influence on our political, legislative and regulatory processes. The oil and gas industry has parlayed that power into loopholes, exemptions, and special treatment in nearly all of our federal environmental protection laws, the tax code and even Covid relief legislation. This means that we pay with risk to our health and environment when the industry profits.
But we have an opportunity to end the preferential treatment for oil and gas companies. The Frack Pack will end the exemption for hydraulic fracturing in the Safe Drinking Water Act. It will make oil drillers manage the runoff from well pads into rivers, lakes and streams, and it will make sure air emissions from drilling are counted under the Clean Air Act.
So far, only a handful of Members of Congress have signed on to cosponsor these bills. We need to let Congress know that stopping water and air pollution from oil and gas operations must be on the agenda this year. Can you send a message to your representative asking them to support and cosponsor the Frack Pack bills?
