Tell Congress to Pass the Protecting the Right to Organize Act

From the Economic Policy Institute (http://www.epi.org/):

Workers collective-bargaining rights hang in the balance.

For decades, our rights to form a union and negotiate a fair return on our work have been under attack. Right now, in Alabama, Amazon warehouse workers are facing efforts by the company’s management to block organizing efforts and intimidate workers. But workers are fighting for their rights, voting now through the end of March on whether to form a union.

To support Amazon warehouse workers in Alabama and workers across the country, Congress must pass the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act, which was introduced in the House and Senate recently.

This critical labor law reform legislation would help restore workers’ rights to join a union and bargain for better wages, benefits, and safer workplaces.

The PRO Act would reform our nation’s labor laws so private-sector employers can’t perpetually stall union elections and contract negotiations and coerce and intimidate workers seeking to unionize.

Go to https://actionnetwork.org/letters/tell-congress-we-must-strengthen-unions-by-passing-the-pro-act to join EPI and our national coalition in writing to your members of Congress to demand the immediate passage of the PRO Act to lift up working families.

The Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act would close loopholes in current law that allow employers to get away with these efforts to undermine working people, and would restore crucial rights established 85 years ago under the National Labor Relations Act.

Here are some of the key elements of this essential legislation:

  • Gives workers more control
  • Imposes real penalties when employers break the law
  • Creates a roadmap to a first union contract
  • Strengthens workers’ ability to strike
  • Cracks down on worker misclassification

The PRO Act would reverse years of attacks on unions and restore fairness to the economy by strengthening the federal laws that protect workers’ right to join a union and bargain for higher wages and better benefits. It will also promote greater racial economic justice because unions and collective bargaining help shrink the Black–white wage gap.

Please write to your members of Congress now and tell them to pass the PRO Act to strengthen the rights of millions of U.S. workers.

Thank you for all you do to fight for an economy that works for all of us, not just the privileged few.
