On Sunday, June 20th – and throughout the month of June – we join people across the world to celebrate the courage and resilience of refugees, recognizing the hardships they have faced and the new lives they have created. Now is a time to come together in an exceptional show of human solidarity and kindness.
As refugees and friends of refugees in the United States, we celebrate the positive impact refugees have on U.S. communities – including the hundreds of thousands who have been working on the frontlines of pandemic response. We know the challenges newcomers face are greater than ever and that we must rally in support of rebuilding and strengthening the refugee resettlement program and promoting policies that help refugees rebuild their lives in the United States.
Here are the top ways to celebrate and honor World Refugee Day:
- Contact Your Member of Congress: Go to https://cwsglobal.org/action-alerts/take-action-tell-congress-to-honor-refugees-on-world-refugee-day-on-june-20th/ to urge your Members of Congress to stand in solidarity with refugees and asylum seekers – and support refugee resettlement and asylum protections.
- Tune into the #RestoringWelcome Refugee Matters’ series: Tune in every Wednesday at 7:00 PM ET on Facebook Live to hear from refugees and asylum seekers from diverse backgrounds and share the series with your networks.
- Attend a Local World Refugee Event: Check out this national map to find a World Refugee celebration in your community! If you’re hosting an event, add it to the map!
