From the National Religious Campaign Against Torture (http://www.nrcat.org):
Twenty years ago today, the first detainees arrived at the Guantanamo Bay prison. There the U.S. tortured some of them and held most of them in indefinite detention without trial. Today 39 people are still imprisoned there.
There are a number of ways you can recognize this day by helping to close the prison at Guantanamo:
- Write to your Members of Congress at https://nrcat.salsalabs.org/close-guantanamo-2022/index.html and ask them to help close Guantanamo.
- Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper calling on the U.S. government to close Guantanamo.
- Arrange a showing of The Mauritanian and encourage attendees to sign our petition.
- Use these sermon notes to speak about Guantanamo during a worship service.
- Say a prayer for those still held at Guantanamo.
