From Families Against Mandatory Minimums (http://famm.org/):
Recently Pennsylvania state Senators Williams, Bartolotta, and Street introduced a bill (SB 14), that would reform how long Pennsylvanians stay on probation and the time they serve for probation violations. FAMM supports this bill because just as spending too much time in prison can hurt families and communities, so can spending too much time on probation.
If passed, the bill would:
- Require early termination of supervised probation after a person serves 18 months without a violation or revocation
- Cap probation terms for felonies and misdemeanors at 5 and 3 years, respectively
- Ban courts from extending probation terms because a person cannot afford to pay a fine, cost or restitution
- Instruct courts on when and how long they can send people to prison for probation revocations
Please tell your state senator and representative to support SB 14!
