From Moms Rising (https://www.momsrising.org/):
Last week, the U.S. Senate Finance Committee held a very important hearing on paid family and medical leave. [1] That the hearing even happened is a huge testament to the relentless work of MomsRising members like you pushing Congress to act on the critical need for paid family and medical leave!
But the hearing also made it clear that we are still facing threats to advancing comprehensive, affordable, and sustainable paid family and medical leave.
Right now that threat is taking the form of a dangerously flawed proposal being advanced by U.S. Senators Marco Rubio, Mike Lee, and Joni Ernst that would raid Social Security to give income to parents of a new child, jeopardizing the future retirement security of new parents while at the same time totally neglecting the majority of people who take leave, whether that’s for family caregiving or personal medical needs! Go to https://action.momsrising.org/sign/FAMILYAct2018/ to tell your U.S. Senators they need to take a HARD PASS on this fake solution and instead support the comprehensive, affordable, Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMILY) Act that is already introduced in Congress (S. 337).
You can learn more about the flaws in these new proposals as well as why the FAMILY Act is the commonsense solution we need at the previous post: https://www.pachurchesadvocacy.org/urge-pa-senators-support-family-act/.
