News recently broke that Donald Trump is pushing MASSIVE budget cuts to successful and popular renewable energy and energy efficiency programs. This is in addition to a litany of other aggressively pro-fossil fuel polices Trump is pushing to benefit his Big Oil allies.
Too many are going along with this scheme, refusing to stand up to fossil fuel companies at the expense of local communities, especially working class and communities of color.
With the price of clean energy falling and rapid advancements in the technology of electric vehicles, this should be a no brainer. Together, we can secure a 100% clean energy future that gives people the power to choose renewable energy solutions and build pollution-free communities — but it has to start with you.
With clean energy costs competitive with fossil fuels right now, the barriers to a clean energy future are no longer technical or economic; they’re political. The Trump administration and fossil-fuel corporations have pushed policies that are undoubtedly harmful to renewable energy, but they can’t stop the clean energy revolution.
There are real clean energy alternatives available right now that provide communities a better deal. From red states to blue, clean energy jobs are booming around the country. And across the country renewable energy is supplying a record amount of energy. The benefits of clean energy are clear, but we must change the polluter-politician dynamic so our communities can take back their power and create safe and healthy communities.
The majority of Americans favor increasing our use of clean, renewable energy sources like solar over increasing the production of dirty oil. Together, we have the power to make change.
Instead of repealing environmental and health protections for the benefit of fossil fuel industries, we should strengthen them for the benefit of our communities and our economy. Instead of opening up offshore waters to oil and gas development, we can expand offshore wind development. We can keep clean energy moving forward even in the Trump era, but we cannot stay silent.
Our economy, our children, and our climate are relying on a clean energy future — a healthier future for all of us. Thank you for signing the petition today.
