The Council has supported the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) efforts to issue a strong rule to curb predatory payday lending by signing a letter drafted by the Faith and Credit Roundtable and the Center for Responsible Lending. There are increasing efforts to slow or stop the CFPB in its tracks, meaning important work by the CFPB may be rolled back and important new rules like the payday rule would never be finalized.
The letter can be read here, and groups can sign onto the letter here.
There is now an effort to have congregations and faith-based allies sign on. Strong representation from Pennsylvania, urging our officials to support the CFPB and the independence that allows it to its job is greatly important.
