The presidential election is on everyone’s mind, but we can’t forget about Congress. After the ballots are counted, Congress will return to Washington on November 14 to debate critical legislation, including the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
Some members of Congress are trying to use tax dollars to fund employment discrimination. They’re hijacking the NDAA to push for a sweeping provision that targets women, LGBTQ people, and religious minorities in the workplace.
The Russell Amendment would require all federal agencies to allow religiously affiliated contractors and grantees to discriminate in employment on the basis of religion when using taxpayer money.
The Russell Amendment was added to the NDAA in the middle of the night, with no debate. They thought we wouldn’t notice, but they were wrong. We’re taking action to stop it in its tracks at http://p2a.co/76tViHM.
