Act Now to Stop Plan to Undermine the Future of the US Postal Service

From the Coalition on Human Needs (http://www.chn.org):

Postmaster General Louis DeJoy was appointed under the last administration to run the US Postal Service more like a for-profit business than a public good. This resulted in a massive slowdown of the mail right before an election when millions of people were relying on mail in ballots. The slowdown also threatened the timely delivery of everything from paychecks to critical medications.

Now, even under the new Biden administration, Trump’s Postmaster General hasn’t stopped―putting forward a plan that would slow down the mail permanently and undermine the future of the US Postal Service. But first it needs to go through a public comment period.

Join our growing national coalition to submit your comment at https://actionnetwork.org/letters/send-a-message-stop-the-mail-slowdown-2. It will be submitted directly to the Federal Register.

Here’s what DeJoy is up to: After a year when unprecedented mail delays caused tremendous national outrage, DeJoy is trying to force through a plan to permanently slow down the delivery of our mail.

The USPS has announced slowdowns to their “service standards,” which are the on-time delivery targets for different kinds of mail. First Class Mail is now supposed to be delivered within 1-3 days, but under DeJoy’s plan could take as long as 5 days! Those service delays will push people away from the US Postal Service, and begin a “death spiral” at the USPS― meaning fewer people would use the Postal Service, creating less revenue, leading to even more budget and service cuts.

Together, we can stop DeJoy’s service cuts and save the USPS!

The US Postal Service is one of the most trusted and cherished government institutions in our country. For generations, the USPS has created good-paying jobs and tied our communities together. Let’s keep it that way!

Thank you for all you do to fight for a future that includes all of us, not just the wealthy few.
