From PennFuture (http://www.pennfuture.org):
Governor Wolf’s 2019-20 state budget proposal contains some good initiatives, but it also diverts millions of dollars from key resource agencies and local environmental programs to close funding shortfalls.
We can’t let that happen. Tell your state representatives to OPPOSE Governor Wolf’s proposed budget and stand up for environmental funding at https://pennfuture.salsalabs.org/opposepastatebudget19/index.html.
Specifically, the proposed budget would cut 13% from the PA Department of Environmental Protection and nearly 30% from the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. It would also take almost $21 million from the Environmental Stewardship Fund; the Keystone Recreation, Park, and Conservation Fund; and the Recycling Fund, which were created to give cities and towns the money they need to address local environmental priorities.
Redirecting these funds to pay for budget holes would seriously damage the reliability of these workhorses for achieving community and environmental improvements across the Commonwealth. Pennsylvania is at a crossroads: to protect and restore our air and water, it is critical that we prevent these agency cuts. We should invest more in the programs that support environmental protection, conservation, and public health, not less.
PennFuture opposes this short-sighted plan to strip millions of dollars from tangible project investments in order to fund general government operations, so please join us in speaking out against it.
