From Physicians for Social Responsibility (http://www.psr.org):
Today we made history. Our decades-long campaign to bring the nuclear ban to the United Nations has finally come to fruition. This morning, heads of state from around the world gathered at the United Nations to sign the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW). This is truly a victory for public health. After fifty countries sign and ratify the treaty, the TPNW will officially enter into force.
However, the United States continues to aggravate nuclear dangers. In an address to the United Nations yesterday, President Trump spoke recklessly about destroying North Korea. Further, the U.S. government is planning an extensive upgrade to perpetuate its nuclear arsenal.
Today is a wake-up call for Americans to urge the U.S. government to change course. PSR needs health advocates to inform Americans that we have a public health solution for today’s nuclear dangers. That’s why we created a digital toolkit to spread the word about the nuclear ban and recruit more health advocates. Will you tell your family, friends, and colleagues about the nuclear ban through Facebook?
