Two SNAP Proposed Rules Open for Comment—Deadlines 11/1 & 12/2

From the Food Research and Action Center (http://www.frac.org):

November 1 and December 2 are the deadlines for comments on two SNAP proposed rules. The first is a 14-day opportunity for comments regarding USDA’s October 15 release of estimates of the impact on school meals of changes to state options to eliminate SNAP asset tests and get SNAP benefits to more households working their way up the economic ladder. While the so-called Broad-based Categorical Eligibility Option (Cat El) garnered more than 127,000 comments during the 60 day comment period that closed on September 23, USDA’s late disclosure of estimates on the impact of the proposal on school meals has precipitated the additional time for comments on that aspect of the proposal. The second rulemaking addresses changes to state SNAP Standard Utility Allowances (SUA). That proposal would cut SNAP benefits nationally by $4.5 billion over five years.

FRAC Comment Platforms

The FRAC website features comment platforms on these two proposed SNAP rules (see SNAP Cat El comment platform, deadline November 1, and SNAP SUA comment platform, deadline December 2) which also offer information, comment templates, and tools to facilitate comment submissions. Resources also are available on the joint campaign pages (SNAP Cat El and SNAP SUA) that FRAC is cohosting with Feeding America, Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, and Center for American Progress.

”Making poor kids hungrier and sicker” is not a slogan I’d want to be associated with in any way, yet that is exactly what the proposed reduction in SNAP would do. I am deeply troubled by this deplorable effort!
