From Groundswell (http://www.groundswell-mvmt.org/):
Thank you for the huge outcry from faith communities across traditions to stand up to this administration and call out these immoral policies that are ripping children from their parents’ arms and holding families seeking protection in detention. We cannot forget Marco Antonio Muñoz, a Honduran father who was separated from his wife and child, committed suicide while
in detention.
We have heard the cry of the children separated from their parents, and we cannot stand idly by. We must continue to take action!
Please sign the petition at https://action.groundswell-mvmt.org/petitions/faith-communities-condemn-family-separation-at-the-border led by Bishop Minerva Carcaño, official spokesperson for the United Methodist Council of Bishops on the issue of immigration, San Francisco Area of The United Methodist Church and an Auburn Senior Fellow.
As the administration shamefully separates parents from their children at the U.S. border, as well as detains and prosecutes and parents, communities of faith are making their voices heard. The new Executive Order won’t stop family separation, as the administration continues to double down on prosecuting asylum seekers, families will be separated when parents are criminalized and deported.
Now is the time to tell our national leaders to stop family separation and protect family unity.
