From Environment America (https://environmentamerica.org/):
When you leave your phone charger plugged into the wall, it’s still using energy even though it’s not charging up your phone. We call these often forgotten plugged in electronics and appliances energy vampires.
Due to energy vampires — and other inefficiencies in our energy system — two thirds of the energy used in America was wasted in 2018.1 But there are solutions out there. By reducing energy use in our homes and businesses, building smarter and more efficient energy infrastructure and improving appliance efficiency standards, we can reduce our energy usage by 50%.2
October 6 was Energy Efficiency Day, and we’ve got some big ideas in the works to make our homes, buildings and country more efficient and less wasteful.
Stand up for energy efficiency by adding your name to our petition to reduce energy waste at https://environmentamerica.webaction.org/p/dia/action4/common/public/?action_KEY=46652.
By joining our community of efficiency warriors, you can do your part to make your home more efficient and promote energy efficiency in your community.
As we continue to work to protect our environment and move toward 100% renewable energy, we also recognize it’s important to ensure our communities are armed with knowledge on how they can waste less energy. After all, the cleanest energy is the energy we never have to use.
There are a lot of ways that you can make an impact, from switching the light bulbs in your home to LEDs to making the transition to rooftop solar. While certain actions may not be feasible for everyone, even small acts can reduce energy waste and help you save money on your monthly utility bill.
Energy Efficiency Day only comes around once a year, but you can use our tips for a more efficient home year-round.3 Take our pledge to keep a more energy efficient home.
We have the power to waste less by using our energy more wisely and efficiently. In honor of Energy Efficiency Day, let’s stand together to promote a more efficient home, community and overall country.
This Energy Efficiency day, join us in taking action!
