From the Union of Concerned Scientists (http://www.ucsusa.org):
The agencies tasked with protecting species under the law—the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) and the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS)—are proposing to make listing decisions based on economics and remove considering climate change, which we know is already affecting species.
Bottom line: species, land conservation, and human health and well-being are being forfeited, and science is being sidelined, for the sake of corporate and political interests.
Add your name to the petition at https://secure.ucsusa.org/onlineactions/3Xv0dHwx2kyqbLilyP872A2 to tell the FWS and NMFS that there is overwhelming public support for a science-based law that improves the environment for species and people. We’ll send your comment directly to the agencies on your behalf.
The Endangered Species Act is constantly being shaped by a participatory decisionmaking process, which should not be undermined in favor of short-term interests, such as oil and gas development. The proposed amendments attack the development and implementation of the law that benefits people, the environment, and threatened and endangered species. Take action today to fight back.
