From Environment America (https://environmentamerica.org/):
When an Ohio man took a job trucking waste for the oil and gas industry, he was told the waste he was transporting was perfectly safe. But when he and other workers began exhibiting strange health problems, he took samples to be tested — and found that the waste he had been handling for years had astonishingly high levels of radiation.1
This dangerous, radioactive waste is a byproduct of oil and gas wells, which produce nearly 1 trillion gallons of it a year. That’s enough to flood Manhattan nearly shin-high every single day.2
It should be a no-brainer to leave dirty, dangerous energy sources like this behind — especially when we have safe alternatives growing every day that don’t put us or our environment at risk.3
Show your support for a society powered entirely by clean, renewable energy by signing our One Million for 100% Renewable Energy petition at https://environmentamerica.webaction.org/p/dia/action4/common/public/?action_KEY=36249. Together, we can demonstrate the vast support for renewable energy and make this vision a reality.
Renewable energy doesn’t cause devastating oil spills off our coasts, pump pollutants into our air and water, or produce radioactive byproduct. A society running off of clean, abundant energy sources like wind and solar would be healthier and safer and do a better job protecting our future.
That’s why we and our national network have championed renewable energy legislation for decades. Over the past two years, we’ve been key players in passing historic, statewide legislation to set goals for using 100 percent clean energy in states like California, New Mexico and Washington. Seven states now have 100 percent clean energy commitments.4
But we didn’t get there alone. The victories we’ve seen so far were made possible by people like you raising their voices in support of energy sources that don’t damage our environment or put our communities at risk.
If an energy system relies on exposing its workers to dangerous, radioactive materials, that system isn’t working. It’s time to fully embrace the vast potential of clean, renewable energy and ensure a healthier, more sustainable society for us and future generations.
