From Common Cause (http://www.commoncause.org):
If you’re as upset as we are about the Supreme Court’s decision yesterday, Please join us in taking action.
The Supreme Court’s ruling in Brnovich v. DNC was a blow to voting rights across the country. It further guts the historic Voting Rights Act of 1965 and will make it much easier for racist anti-voter laws like those recently enacted in Georgia and Florida to survive legal challenges.
Congress must respond immediately — by repairing and strengthening the Voting Rights Act with the soon-to-be-introduced John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, and by setting fair, nationwide voting standards with the For the People Act.
This week’s terrible ruling makes your senator’s action — and yours — more critical than ever. Please write a letter urging our senators to do whatever it takes to protect ALL voters at https://actionnetwork.org/letters/write-your-senator-demand-a-big-bold-and-complete-for-the-people-act.
The For the People Act would expand access to voting and protect every American’s right to vote, end partisan and racial gerrymandering, and make democracy work for everyone.
And, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act would repair the damage done to the Voting Rights Act by this week’s decision as well as by the Shelby ruling in 2013 — which opened the door to hundreds of anti-voter laws in states across the country.
Yesterday’s decision shows that our democracy is hanging in the balance and that we must do whatever it takes to protect voting rights. As President Biden said in response to yesterday’s ruling, “This is our life’s work and the work of all of us. Democracy is on the line. We can do this together.”
