From the National Council of Churches (http://www.ncccusa.org):
There is no doubt that opiate addiction has reached crisis levels in this country. But just trying to incarcerate our way out of the problem is not going to work. However, this is Senator Kelly Ayotte’s answer to the opiate addiction epidemic in the U.S.
Ayotte on Tuesday introduced an amendment to the defense spending bill that would drop the threshold of possession for fentanyl by 95% for a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years. This preposterous proposal would do nothing to stem the tide of opiate abuse and would devastate communities of color already reeling from unjust mandatory minimum sentences.
Tell Sen. Ayotte you want to end mass incarceration, not make it worse. Go to https://www.oneclickpolitics.com/messages/edit?promo_id=2714 to take action now.
