From Common Cause (http://www.commoncause.org):
Thanks to your action, Pennsylvania anti-voter constitutional amendments will not be on the ballot this May.
After a statewide outcry from Common Cause Pennsylvania members like you, we’ve been able to stop the Pennsylvania House from moving amendments to impose strict voter ID and gut our state’s separation of powers.
But we aren’t out of the woods yet – the House could still pass these amendments in time to get on the November ballot.
In order to put these amendments to rest for good, we need to fix our deeply flawed constitutional amendment process. Please send a message to Pennsylvania House Speaker Mark Rozzi at https://act.commoncause.org/letters/tell-speaker-rozzi-reform-our-amendment-process urging him to stop this anti-democracy power grab for good.
Speaker Rozzi recently referred to Harrisburg as “broken” – and we think a great way to start fixing it is to make the rules for new constitutional amendments more fair.
Pennsylvania’s constitution is the most important legal document in our state, and should only be amended after thoughtful consideration and public input.
But in recent years, Pennsylvania Republicans have increasingly attempted to abuse the process to rush through their partisan agenda – tacking amendments on to unrelated bills at the last minute, passing them in the middle of the night, and enacting a total lockdown on public input the whole way through.
We need clear rules requiring amendments to be proposed as separate bills, have thoughtful deliberation, provide ample time for public input, and invite expert testimony.
If you agree we need these simple reforms, send a message to Speaker Rozzi today >>
