From CLASP (http://www.clasp.org/):
The Agriculture and Nutrition Act of 2018, also known as the 2018 farm bill, is a major piece of legislation that reauthorizes many agriculture and nutrition programs, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). As our nation’s largest nutrition program, SNAP provides a modest monthly benefit that helps millions of families put food on the table. SNAP also lifts millions of people out of poverty, boosts local economies, and effectively reaches some of the most vulnerable people in our nation. Safeguarding SNAP is crucial to protecting the short- and long-term health, education, and employment outcomes for children and families.
The House Agriculture Committee passed the 2018 farm bill, which would decrease or completely cut off SNAP for millions of households—including many working families—while imposing a massive and underfunded bureaucracy on states under the guise of work and training opportunities. The proposed legislation, which must be considered next by the full House of Representatives, would undermine decades of progress on reducing hunger and food insecurity and departs from the bipartisan tradition of past farm bills.
Now is the time to educate lawmakers on the importance of SNAP to the people and communities you serve. The proposed farm bill is a step in the wrong direction. It is crucial for the House of Representatives to reject this legislation and the Senate to continue crafting bipartisan legislation that protects and strengthens SNAP.
