Tell Congress to Protect Drinking Water from Rocket Fuel Chemicals

From PennEnvironment (http://www.pennenvironment.org):

A chemical used in rocket fuel, explosives and fireworks could also be in drinking water, but no one is protecting us from it.

The Trump administration’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that it will not set regulations on perchlorate — a chemical known to harm brain development that is found in rocket fuel and other explosive products — in our drinking water.

Go to https://pennenvironment.webaction.org/p/dia/action4/common/public/?action_KEY=39367 to tell Congress: Protect our drinking water from rocket fuel chemicals.

Found in the water, soil or sediment of 45 states, this chemical can harm the brain development in fetuses and young children, and disrupt thyroid function.1

The chemical has been classified as a drinking water contaminant under the Safe Drinking Water Act since 2011. Yet, the EPA is revoking its 2008 finding that no more than 15 parts per billion (ppb) of perchlorate in drinking water was safe. The Food and Drug Administration suggests that if any drinking water has levels higher than 15 ppb, it is too dangerous for infants and pregnant women. Now, the agency is suggesting that levels almost four times that would be safe.2,3

A chemical that is commonly used in matches, fireworks, rocket propellants and signal flares is not something we should find in the water our children drink. We need Congress to make sure our water is protected.

Rocket fuel chemicals don’t belong in our drinking water. Add your name.
