From Church World Service (http://www.churchworldservice.org):
On Friday, July 16th, a Texas federal court immorally ruled that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program be partially ended, blocking new applicants from the vital program. Though people with DACA will not lose their protections, the decision blocks granting any new first-time DACA applications – meaning tens of thousands of new DACA applicants who have submitted their applications will be barred from getting protections from deportation and work authorization. The cruel decision is a reminder that temporary protections leave undocumented community members vulnerable. It is vital that Congress urgently pass a permanent, meaningful pathway to citizenship for all 11 million undocumented community members.
Join us to demand that Congress permanently protect Dreamers, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders, farmworkers, and other essential workers. Congress has a unique opportunity to pass a pathway to citizenship through the budget reconciliation process – a process that allows for a simple majority of the Senate to adopt particular types of policy. Since Congress is engaging in the budget reconciliation process right now, it is more important than ever to keep up the pressure.
